The Hist is delighted to announce that applications are open for our first ever Equity Officer.

The Equity Officer will deal with complaints of discrimination in the Hist based on factors including (but not limited to) sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, age, or disability status.

Complainants will be able to approach the Equity Officer through an email address (, an anonymous Google form linked to on the website, or a personal mobile number. Upon receiving a submission, the Equity Officer will discuss the complaint with the complainant and inform them of their options. Where corrective action is deemed necessary, the Equity Officer will present a report to Committee and recommend solutions.

Applications for this position close on Saturday 15 February and should be emailed to The application should include a brief (up to 500 words) explanation of why the candidate would be suitable for the role. While the applicant should have some involvement in the society, they are not required to have spoken in debates.

Following a discussion, applications will be decided by a Committee vote on Monday 17 February.
